War Stories: The Search for a Usable Past in the Federal Republic of Germany by Robert G. Moeller,
War Stories: The Search for a Usable Past in the Federal Republic of Germany by Robert G. Moeller,
Robert G. Moeller powerfully conveys the complicated story of how West Germans recast the recent past after the Second World War. He rejects earlier characterizations of a postwar West Germany dominated by attitudes of "forgetting" or silence about the Nazi past. He instead demonstrates the "selective remembering" that took place among West Germans during the postwar years: in particular, they remembered crimes committed against Germans, crimes that--according to some contemporary accounts--were comparable to the crimes of Germans against Jews. Moeller draws on a wide range of U.S. and German government documents, political debates, film archives, letters, oral histories, and newspaper accounts.

Siemens Westinghouse Competition - After Siemens AG purchased Westinghouse Electric Corporation in 1997, it was under the impression that the prestigious Westinghouse Science Talent Search (now the Intel Science Talent Search) would be theirs as well. When they discovered this was not the case and they ultimately lost the bidding to Intel, Siemens decided to create the Siemens Foundation to continue the tradition using the well-known Westinghouse name, calling the new competition the Siemens Westinghouse Competition (SWC), which is administered by the College Board.

Siemens Westinghouse - Siemens Westinghouse is a power generation company based in the United States. Run by the German Siemens AG Corporation, Siemens Westinghouse was formed by the acquisition of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation by the Siemens power generation division.

Siemens Foundation - The Siemens Foundation is a non-profit organization run by Siemens AG. It is responsible for the Siemens Westinghouse Competition, a prestigious science and engineering award, and also is involved in the Siemens AP Scholar Award.

Siemens cellular telephones - Siemens cellular telephones were very early mobile phones, produced by Siemens AG. The company created the first phone with a colour screen, (the S10, with 4 different colours - red, green, blue and white - that could be displayed), the first "outdoor" phone (the S10 Active, with enhanced shock, dust and splash protection), the first slider phone (the SL10) and probably the first phone with an MP3 player (Siemens SL45).
